Henrietta “Net” Smith was born August 28, 1841, in Fairfield County, Connecticut. She came with her parents from Connecticut when 3 years of age to Iowa and moved to Knox County when 16 years old. She first married Elias Miller. The story told to a niece of hers relayed that when Henrietta went into labor with their first child, Elias supposedly went to fetch a doctor but he went to a sale somewhere and didn’t come back. As labor progressed, Henrietta, anxiously watching the road for her husband’s return, stopped a passerby who was able to rush her to her parent’s home and her baby girl was born there. When Elias came to see Henrietta and the baby, her father James M. Smith held up the baby and showed her to Elias at the door but didn’t let him in to the house. Henrietta didn’t ever go back to Elias and unfortunately the baby only lived a few months and is presumed to be buried at the Bee Ridge Cemetery not far from Yankee Street.
Henrietta then married A. Robert Brooking, a Civil War veteran, March 11, 1866. After she married, she lived on a farm in Lewis County, two miles south of La Belle, Missouri. They had three children. She was a devoted member of the La Belle Christian Church. After her husband’s death, she moved with her mother, sister and brother, A. D. Smith to Kirksville, Missouri in 1902. She lived there about 32 years. Then moved back to La Belle a few years before her death. She died March 12, 1932 in La Belle and was buried in Knox City, Missouri. | SMITH, Henrietta (I1369)

"Jack" was injured when about 14\15 years old. A plank fell on his
leg while an apprentice. It knocked his knee cap off. He was in the
hospital for 11 months and had 11 surgeries. Because no visitors
called from the Church of England, his mother changed their member-

Isaac was the son of Jeffrey Estey, and a cooper by trade. He settled in Topsfield previous to 1660. He was one of the selectman of the town in 1680, 1682, 1686 and 1688. In 1677, he was called "senior" after his son Isaac came of age. In 1684, Isaac, wife and family were members of the church (on the church membership list in that year).
He died at Topsfield 1712, leaving a will dated March 26, 1709, probated 11 June 1712, and named: (1) his son, Isaac; (2) son Joseph; (3) son John; (4) son Benjamin; (5) son Jacob; (6) son Joshua; (7) daughter Sarah Irellan; and (8) daughter Hannah.
He was married to Mary, daughter of William and Johannah Blessing Towne.
Isaac and Mary were parents of: Isaac; Joseph; Sarah; John; Hannah; Benjamin; Samuel (died before 1709); Jacob; and Joshua.
They settled first in Salem Village, then later in Topsfield, Massachusetts, with his wife Mary Towne Easty and their seven living children. Mary and her sisters Sarah (Cloyse) and Rebecca (Nurse) became targets of the Salem Witch hunts of 1692, due to land feuds and religious politics. Rebecca was hung in July of 1692, and Mary lost her life as well to the gallows in September of 1692. Sarah narrowly missed being hung. All three were good, virtuous, innocent women. Mary spoke out against the trials before her death, hoping to put an end to it. The family was given a small renumeration from the community many years later (around 1710) to "repay" the wrongful deaths of these good women.

Lydia (Harris Renfrow) Spratt | 1921 ~ 2016
Lydia was born at Fairfield, ID on December 1, 1921, and after living a very full and productive life, passed away at the age of 94 at Fresno, CA on August 8, 2016.
Mom wrote about her life a few years ago, which seems a perfect way to let her story be told.
I was born in the small town of Fairfield, Idaho. It's not a great deal larger now, but in those days there were many small towns and ranches spread throughout the Camas Prairie. There were also several summer elementary schools, for there was no way for children to get into the town school during the heavy snowfalls of the winter season. I attended one of these schools for eight years. It ran from "snow gone" to "snow comes", usually a 7 ½ month period. I was several years older than my two brothers, so often these long winter months seemed to last forever. One trip weekly, if we were lucky, to town in a horse drawn sled for mail and groceries.
My childhood years were spent on a ranch or at a sawmill my father owned, which was located about a mile above what is now the Soldier Mountain ski lift.
Upon entering high school, the family finally moved into town for most of the winter months. Basketball, drama and public speaking are my favorite memories of high school days. Upon graduation, I moved to Gooding and was employed at the State School for Deaf and Blind children.
A few years later, I married my high school sweetheart (who had become a "Railroad Man") and for a time we moved around living in some strange and funny surroundings with the Union Pacific. After a short time, we moved to Nampa, where we raised 2 sons and 3 daughters. I am now a widow, the grandmother of 13 and great-grandmother of 9.
My husband and I ran an evening telegraph school for 16 years during which time I also worked part time as a real estate saleswoman. I then decided to take the Practical Nurse course at the old Mercy hospital location and then transferred to the new Mercy Medical Hospital on its first day of operation, and I worked here until the Union Pacific moved us to Pocatello. Needless to say, it was a very happy day when my husband retired and we moved "Home to Nampa".
I am now finding much pleasure in being a Mercy volunteer. I work in the gift shop and serve on the Volunteer Board. I am also a Eucharistic Minister serving patients for St. Paul's Catholic Church.
She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Nancy Spratt (Michael) of Boise and their children, Brian and Bruce; son, Jerome and Shirley Spratt of Boise and their children, Tina, Nikki and Danielle; daughter, Mary Kathleen Mace of Spokane, WA and her children, David and Keri; daughter, Cheryl and William Racz of Boise and their children, Amanda, Samantha and Sarah; daughter, Christine Malsom and Sally Olson of Fresno, CA and Christy's children, Tony, Jenny and Jacob. Numerous great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews also survive her.
Lydia was preceded in death by her husband, Bruce D. Spratt, on Easter Sunday 1993, and by her son, Michael B. Spratt, in 2000. Her parents, Mary and Carl Renfrow and Cliff Harris, and her brothers, Jack and David Renfrow, also preceded her in death.
For many years, Mom shared her talents and gifts with family, church and community. She sewed most of her daughters' clothes including formal gowns and incredible costumes for parades, Halloween and drama productions. We will all remember the love she stitched into those amazing quilts, blankets and clothing for her grandchildren and some of those items are still being used today by her great-grandchildren. When St. Paul's church asked for baked goods, she was ready and willing to produce her famous mile-high lemon meringue pies. Mom's passion for service was evident in her dedication to the Catholic Daughters of America. In 1998, she was honored to be named the Idaho State Catholic Daughter of the Year. While volunteering in the gift shop at Mercy Hospital, she was teased about being her "own best customer."
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on August 29, 2016 at Saint Paul's Catholic Church, 510 W Roosevelt, Nampa, ID, at 11:00 AM with burial to follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to Saint Paul's Catholic Church Building Fund (1515 8th St. S, Nampa, ID 83651) for the new hall and school, or to a charity of your choosing in Lydia's name.

Lynn Carl Barkdull, longtime resident of Lake Stevens, passed away unexpectantly on February 17, 2015 at the age of 75. He was born June 23, 1939 in Pocatello, Idaho the youngest of seven children to Mabel and Lester Barkdull but lived on the family farm in Shoshone, Idaho.
He met his future wife at a dance in 1958, and married Darla J. (Brooks) Barkdull on April 16, 1960. After marriage they lived in Meridian, Idaho where he worked on a local farm. He also briefly owned a gas station, and later at an implement company. He was drafted into the Army in 1963 and served in Germany, where he took full advantage of his opportunity to get an education. After discharge in late 1965 he found his future career as an aircraft mechanic in Washington at the Auburn Boeing Plant starting on January 3, 1966. Lynn worked for the "AOG" team at Boeing from 1980 until his retirement in 1999 and enjoyed traveling the world.
Lynn and Darla bought land and built a home in Lake Stevens in 1970 after his transfer to the Everett Plant, where they resided until their passing. Lynn was an avid hunter and fisherman. When his sons were young he was very active as a Little League Baseball and Soccer coach. He volunteered as a Little league Soccer referee for many years as well. He was regular at many work parties on Little League Baseball fields and helped built several more in Lake Stevens.
He is survived by his sister, Alberta; son, Brett; daughter-in-law, Michele Barkdull and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Chett; brothers, Melvin, Merlin, Wayne; sisters, Darlene and Benita. His wife of 54 years, Darla, passed away February 20, 2015 after a brief illness.
A Memorial service will be held Saturday March 21, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at Evergreen Funeral Home and Cemetery, 4504 Broadway, Everett, Wa. Grave side service will take place at Machias Community Cemetery. | BARKDULL, Lynn Carl (I754)

Marilyne L. Vandiver passed away peacefully at her home on January 31, 2011, after battling cancer as she tackled all the challenges that she faced in her life, with toughness and determination. She will be lovingly remembered by her Husband of 45 years, Gary Vandiver; her children, Dirk Vandiver and Jenny Talbert; and her granddaughter, Caitlin L Talbert. You could always count on Marilyne for good advice, support and a never ending supply of love when you needed it most. Marilyne was a lady who didn't mince words, told it like it was and when she set her mind to something don't stand in her way. Marilyne was raised in Los Altos, CA. She met Gary in 1965, and they were married in May 1966. Gary's job moved them from California to Chicago, Denver, and Rochester, MN. In 1976, Gary, Marilyne and the family moved to a small 2-room cabin in the Blue Mountains of Idaho while working to find a business of their own. Marilyne and Gary moved to Richland in 1977 where they settled down and purchased Ballard Storage & Transfer in Richland. Marilyne was the vice president, co-owner and backbone of the business that she loved, people knew that if Marilyne said the job would get done, it was done and it was done right. Marilyne was the first woman elected President of the Washington Movers Conference since its beginning in 1913. She was also elected President of the Tri-City Transportation Club. Marilyne was an avid gardener and loved spending time 'working in the dirt!' She will be greatly missed by her family, her friends and the many business associates she met through the years. Please help the family celebrate her life by joining us on Saturday, February 12, at the Meadow Springs Country Club between 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. As we sadly wave farewell, I'm sure Marilyne will be riding off on the final journey in her convertible with the top down, the wind in her hair and a smile on her face. | PROCTOR, Marilyne Laurel (I540)
